Namibia is a country ideally suited to middle and heavyweight adventure bikes, depending on the routes you choose to ride. Pencil straight tar roads or winding gravel tracks through the mountains, easy cruising or rocky jeep tracks & sandy riverbeds… Namibia has it all and we aim to offer a motorcycle tour for all types of riders in this fantastic country!
The best time for a Namibian motorcycle tour is during the dry season between May & September. These are the “winter months” and the temperatures are moderate, averaging 20-25°c.
The Namibian summer runs from November to April. These months can get extremely hot and chances of rainfall are higher. The rainfall doesn’t just mean you get wet… many rivers will flood and limit your route options!
If you’re looking to break away from it all for a while, a motorcycle tour across Namibia might be exactly what you need. If you want some space to clear your head, to take in a breath of fresh air and experience some incredible riding along the way – Namibia is waiting for you! These landscapes are what adventure bikes are made for.
With such an array of African wildlife and very few fences, you can expect to see almost anything crossing the road in front of you. From elephants to warthogs, zebra to giraffe – keep your eyes peeled and you’ll spot something! Unlike seeing animals at the zoo you get quite a rewarding feeling from spotting amazing wildlife in the middle of nowhere, all from the seat of your motorcycle.
From beach front villas on the Skeleton Coast to luxurious safari tents in the middle of nowhere, Namibia has some truly spectacular accommodation options. Even the simple camping set ups will blow you away – camping under a million stars with nothing and no one nearby in 100% silence is an incredible experience that just feels so special in Namibia.
Where our motorcycle tours venture further north in Namibia, closer to the Angola border, we’ll start to encounter the ‘Himba’ and ‘Herero’ tribes. The topless Himba ladies wash with smoke (yes, smoke!) and their hair is matted into rows with clay. In contrast, the Herero ladies wear large full length dresses and shoulder width hats. It’s not everyday you get to meet such hardy & resourceful folk and it’s always an extremely interesting, memorable experience!
The landscapes here are BIG and the feeling you get riding a motorcycle thousands of miles across such an empty country is quite surreal. Surrounded by such endless beauty hour after hour, day after day – a motorcycle tour in Namibia is a unique experience and not one to be missed!
