After refreshing with a cold coconut we’ll board the wooden boat and chug over to the other side where the trails await. 35km of amazing trail that wind through the jungle, cross through rivers and pass through remote villages. We cross another two rivers on wooden boats before reaching the end of the trail. Back on dirt road, we cruise back towards the Mekong River. We’ll load our bikes onto another wooden boat that we will have called in – this will take us 15 minutes up the river to Preah Rumkel where our campsite and BBQ awaits!

Accommodation will be in tents on our private river island.

DAY 8: LAOS BORDER – PREAH KHAN | 220km

The boats will pick us up from our island in the morning and take us over to Laos for breakfast. We’ll then return to Cambodia where our bikes will be lined up waiting for us. A short ride up river along twisting dirt roads are the breathtaking Mekong river rapids. We’ll then turn south where we’ll be presented with the option to ride an awesome trail through the jungle, or stick to the easier dirt roads through to our destination. Preah Khan is a spectacular deserted temple that is surrounded by jungle and is untouched by tourists. We’ll explore the complex as the sun is going down and then head to the nearby village where our homestay host (and the village chief) will be awaiting with an esky full of cold beers and a mammoth feast… this guy always puts on a fantastic spread for us!!

Accommodation will be a homestay with the chief of the village.

DAY 9: PREAH KHAN – SIEM REAP | 110km

After breakfast will saddle up for an awesome day of riding through to Siem Reap, stopping at Beng Mealea temple for lunch. We’ll be riding Cambodia’s very own ‘route 66‘ – an ancient highway that connects the city of Angkor Wat with Preah Khan. Over the past 700 years or so the route has deteriorated into an incredible riding trail through the jungle. We will stop at places where old ‘rest stop’ temples and ancient bridges still exist, hidden in the undergrowth.

Accommodation will be in a quality hotel with a pool.

DAY 10: SIEM REAP REST DAY

Of course, no visit to Cambodia is complete without a visit to the UNESCO world heritage site of Angkor Wat. Siem Reap is a beautiful city with hundreds of quality restaurants, bars and bustling markets for you to explore.

DAY 11: SIEM REAP – BATTAMBANG | 185km

We’ll head west towards the Thai border. We’ll ride a variety of dirt roads and winding trails as we ride past lakes and alongside rivers. We’ll stop for lunch besides a large reservoir before continuing to the old French colonial town of Battambang. You’ll even have the chance to sample some of the local rice paddy rats at one of the roadside BBQs! Mmmmm rat. Tastes just like chicken, of course.

Accommodation will be in a quality hotel with a pool.

DAY 12: BATTAMBANG – OSAOM | 220km

A short cruise out of Battambang is Phnom Sampeau – a small mountain which witnessed major atrocities committed by the Khmer Rouge. We’ll visit the gruesome Killing Caves and see the guns that the Vietnamese used to keep the Khmer Rouge at bay after they’d taken hold of the mountain.

We’ve got some awesome trail riding today, from fast paced dirt roads, muddy sections in ‘sticky land’, river crossings and winding dirt roads that climb up in the Cardamom Mountains providing breathtaking views across the hills. We’ll finish up the day by crossing a lake on a small wooden boat before arriving at a beautiful homestay style lodge, surrounded by lakes and jungle. Cool off by jumping in for a swim behind our lodge.

Accommodation will be in a homestay style lodge.

DAY 13: OSAOM – KOH KONG | 115km

We’ll ride a fun dirt road in the morning that sweeps through the hills. We then branch off into thick thick jungle for some epic singletrack riding, stream crossings and hilly sections. After the jungle section we’ll ride a beautiful dirt and concrete road through the mountains on the way down to Koh Kong, visiting a couple of waterfalls en route. Tonight’s destination is Koh Kong – a riverside town close to the Thai border. We’ll go out to dinner at a beautiful riverside restaurant where we can borrow their kayaks and paddle out to a river island and watch the fire flies coming out as the sun is setting… just beautiful.

Accommodation will be in a quality riverside hotel.
