13-Day High Altitude Himalayan Motorcycle Tour

This high altitude Himalayan motorcycle tour isnโ€™t a race and itโ€™s definitely not a rally. Itโ€™s your chance to ride Hanle and Pangong Tso properly, take in the views, and end the day feeling like youโ€™ve had a proper holiday. With a guide leading and medical support, a mechanic and a support vehicle behind, you get the full experience without the chaos.

Pillion Friendly?
Yes (with difficulty in places)
Pillion riders frequently join these trips. But please be aware, it is very important that the pilot is a highly experienced rider, on both paved and unpaved roads. Our support vehicle should never be far behind, so the pillion rider has the option to hop into the support vehicle for the more challenging sections if needed.
Terrain
35% unpaved
Approximately 65% of this route is paved, and 30% is unpaved. The paved roads can vary in condition, as can the unpaved roads. Some sections of the unpaved roads can be really quite rocky or sandy in places. The conditions in the Himalayas change every single year, so this percentage could be higher or lower for your trip.
Total Distance KM
~1695
This is the total riding distance from start to finish. This is not exact, and the actual distance covered may be effected by conditions & road closures etc.
Support
Fully supported and guided
Our local guide will ride at the front of the group. Our tour leader, who is trained as a wilderness first response medic, rides at the back of the group (carrying a medical kit), our mechanic also rides at the back of the group, and we have a support vehicle travelling behind the group. The support vehicle carries all of your main luggage, spare parts, water, snacks and further med kit & stretcher etc. We also bring a spare rider with us too, ready to hop on your bike if you're ill, injured or struggling with the conditions. Back at base, we have a consulting expedition doctor, ready to assist and advise in the case of a medical emergency.
Airport Information
Arrival: Delhi International Airport (DEL) Departure: Leh Airport (IXL)
Standard of Accommodation
6 (out of 10)
Please note, this is an average! Some of the accommodation is really very nice, and some is really very basic.
Difficulty Rating (overall)
6 (out of 10)
This is our best effort to give an average rating for the trip, based on the average rider. This is subjective though, and will vastly depend on your own riding experience and ability. It can also vary depending on the weather conditions during your trip, and other things such as road works, road closures/diversions etc.
Average Daily Ride Hours
6 - 7
Generally, we depart at 9am and aim to arrive at the accommodation by 4pm, stopping for drink/photo stops and lunch along the way. These are not strict times though, and these can vary depending on the conditions at the time, the ability/pace of the group and distance.

Riding Indiaโ€™s Most Scenic Mountain Roads

Tour Overview

High altitude, a trusty Royal enfield, incredible scenery. This 13-day high altitude himalayan motorcycle tour isย  built for riders who want the full measure of the mountains. Riding Royal Enfields through some of the most remote corners of northern India, you will climb gradually from the lower valleys into the high-altitude cold deserts of Ladakh, tackling huge passes, mixed terrain, water crossings and vast empty roads that feel a world away from everyday life.

The route builds brilliantly. From the winding mountain roads above Shimla and the raw beauty of Spiti, the tour pushes deeper into the Himalayas towards Leh, Pangong Tso and the remote frontier village of Hanle. Then comes the big one: the ride up to Umling La, one of the highest roads on earth and a genuine bucket-list moment for any adventure motorcyclist. This is not a tour about rushing from stop to stop. It is about riding properly, taking in the landscapes, and enjoying a route that keeps changing with every day in the saddle.

This premium guided Himalayan tour is fully supported by an experienced team with a guide, mechanic, medical support and backup vehicle travelling with the group throughout. That means you can focus on the riding while we take care of the rest. Big mountains, proper support, unforgettable roads and a route packed with character from start to finish.

Richard Hammond and his mates loved the Himalayas โ€“ we bet you would too! Take a look at what they had to say.
