Valley of the Gods

11-Day Royal Enfield Motorcycle Tour Himalayas from Delhi to Leh

Travelling over some of the highest roads in the world, this Royal Enfield motorcycle tour of the Himalayas is the long way to Leh, and thatโ€™s the point. You ride valleys so deep the road and river often share the same path, camp in the ancient lakeside village of Nako, and roll into Leh with that quiet, dust-in-the-creases satisfaction you only earn on a proper mountain route.

Pillion Friendly?
Yes (with difficulty in places)
Pillion riders frequently join these trips. But please be aware, it is very important that the pilot is a highly experienced rider, on both paved and unpaved roads. Our support vehicle should never be far behind, so the pillion rider has the option to hop into the support vehicle for the more challenging sections if needed.
Terrain
30% unpaved
Approximately 70% of this route is paved, and 15% is unpaved. The paved roads can vary in condition, as can the unpaved roads. Some sections of the unpaved roads can be really quite rocky or sandy in places. The conditions in the Himalayas change every single year, so this percentage could be higher or lower for your trip.
Total Distance KM
1160
This is the total riding distance from start to finish. This is not exact, and the actual distance covered may be effected by conditions & road closures etc.
Support
Fully supported and guided
Our local guide will ride at the front of the group. Our tour leader, who is trained as a wilderness first response medic, rides at the back of the group (carrying a medical kit), our mechanic also rides at the back of the group, and we have a support vehicle travelling behind the group. The support vehicle carries all of your main luggage, spare parts, water, snacks and further med kit & stretcher etc. We also bring a spare rider with us, ready to hop on your bike if you're ill, injured or struggling with the conditions. Back at base, we have a consulting expedition doctor, ready to assist and advise in the case of a medical emergency.
Airport Information
Arrival: Delhi International Airport (DEL) Departure: Leh Airport (IXL)
Standard of Accommodation
5 (out of 10)
Please note, this is an average! Some of the accommodation is very nice, and some is really very basic. We travel into some very remote corners of the Indian Himalayas where our options are extremely limited... So please don't expect all of the accommodation to be the same standard as what you might expect back home!
Difficulty Rating (overall)
5 (out of 10)
This is our best effort to give an average rating for the trip, based on the average rider. This is subjective though, and will vastly depend on your own riding experience and ability. It can also vary depending on the weather conditions during your trip, and other things such as road works, road closures/diversions etc.
Average Daily Ride Hours
5 - 6
Generally, we depart at 9am and aim to arrive at the accommodation by 4pm, stopping for drink/photo stops and lunch along the way. These are not strict times though, and these can vary depending on the conditions at the time, the ability/pace of the group and distance.
