11th August ’21 Newsletter

Where to begin? This newsletter is an especially exciting one for us, as for the first time in over 15 long months we have actually had a tour out! I know, we can scarcely believe it either.

Not only that but we (over in Blighty) recently got the news regarding relaxed amber list country restrictions AND India has moved across to amber! Exciting times ahead.

The world is still far from back to normal but dare we say it, things seem to be finally getting back on track… Unless of course you’re trying to plan a recce in Morocco, but more on that later.

Hurrah Hurrah, thanks to America being more relaxed in their attitude towards international travel, we have at long last been able to run an actual motorcycle tour in Colombia, for some of our riders across the pond!

With a sold out ride on the cards we dusted the cobwebs off our Colombian team, grabbed a load of Betas and Huskies and headed to Bogota to kick off the dawn of a new era in style! And what a fantastic country in which to restart our tours!

Rider Jimmy was so keen to finally be able to go on holiday that, in his excitement, managed to bring his old expired passport with him. A fact that both the airline & US in migration failed to notice, meaning upon reaching Colombia he was immediately flown back to the US to get his correct passport. It seems we aren’t the only ones out of practice in the workplace.

With 9 riders all going home happy we look forward to being able to take many more people out exploring the world by bike soon.
Let’s hope that this marks the start of plenty more tours to come!

AMBER MEANS GO!

Some more good news, this time coming from back in Blighty! With the news that double jabbed travellers will not need to self-isolate when returning from amber list countries, the staff over at ride HQ were jumping for joy!

Not only does this mean that our tour destinations in Asia, such as Cambodia & Laos and now the Indian Himalayas should be back open for business in time for the 21/22 season, but it also means that expedition leader Toby and his newly recruited side kick, Greasby, will be able to hit up Morocco.

Or so we thought…
Morocco is fast becoming a running joke here in the office. Our planned departure date for the recce has yet again been postponed. Although it being on the Amber list meant we could get ourselves over there, the domestic travel restrictions on their side continue to harper our plans.

Never fear, we’re not ones to give up easily, so we’ve pushed our travel date back to early October (5th time lucky?)… August would have been a tad warm anyway.

Julian Challis is bloody, bruised & nursing a broken bike in the jungles of Laos & Vietnam.

If you fancy finding out what goes on behind the scenes here at Ride Expeditions and the sort of adventures we get up too when route planning a new tour, this recent article in issue 64 of ABR magazine will give you a little insight. This recce is from a few years back, when we planned the trails for what is now known as our ‘Laos to Vietnam Adventure’.
