As we're sure you are aware, the situation in India has recently deteriorated. Whilst these past 12 months have been a struggle for most, some have been affected worse than others and sadly it doesn't look to be easing anytime soon.
Manali is a little town in the Indian Himalayas & a place many of you will have visited on our Himalayan tours. It is also where our local partner is based & was home to Ride Expeditions owners Toby & Anna for two years. Being a tourist destination, the pandemic has hit this place hard and much of the population is out of work, with no furlough scheme equivalent to support them.
Many of the poorer families in Manali rely on the money that their children receive from tourists... Not an ideal situation in the first place but without any tourists visiting the area, these children and their families are struggling to afford food.
We know that this won't be a long term solution but by raising some money, Anu (our local business partner in Manali) will be able to purchase food for these children & help get them through these tough times.
Obviously we at Ride Expeditions would love to be able to send a load of money from the business without the need to ask for donations but as you can imagine, after a year of not running any tours, we aren't exactly flushed ourselves (although we shall of course be donating some from our side).
We are however lucky enough to have a really great network of past riders & a loyal following on our social media/newsletter channels. So while we do not like to ask for money, we feel it is our responsibility to at least try... if we can raise even a small amount it will make a difference. |
