Sea to Safari, at Your Own Pace

Tour Overview

This self-guided motorcycle tour in South Africa takes you over some of the country’s best mountain passes, from sensational coastal roads deep into the desolate Cederberg Wilderness and across the Tankwa Karoo region. The route also passes through the world-famous Garden Route on the southern Cape coast before finishing with a superb safari showcasing Africa’s majestic wildlife.

We’ve packed as many of South Africa’s greatest roads and most beautiful little towns as possible into this 8-day adventure. Riding times and distances are comfortable, with a mix of well-maintained gravel and tarmac roads to keep you engaged from start to finish.

If you’d like to extend your riding adventure, you can add three more days to your journey and return to Cape Town along the spectacular coastal route from Addo. This extension takes you through the Garden Route and down to the tip of Africa. Please note, the extension is not part of the Sea to Safari tour and is neither guided nor supported. You’ll need to be self-sufficient, carrying everything you require for the three days. We’ll arrange the motorcycle and accommodation, recommend routes, points of interest, and fuel stops, and can transport any extra luggage back to Cape Town, ready for your arrival.

Self-Guided & Supported Sea to Safari Tours

This is not a guided group tour – it’s designed for riders who crave freedom, flexibility, and independence. But that doesn’t mean you’re on your own. We provide the motorcycle, arrange all accommodation, prepare the necessary paperwork, and organise motorcycle return transport from your final destination. You’ll receive detailed GPX routes for each day, plus access to a tour app loaded with fuel stops, recommended eateries, route notes, contacts, and essential travel information.

While you’re out there exploring, a backup vehicle (driven by a first-response medic) follows the route. It carries your luggage, tools, essential spares, and a medical kit – so you can ride light and stay focused on the road ahead.

Important to Know about Sea to Safari

Because this isn’t a guided tour, there won’t be a full-time support team riding alongside you. While the backup vehicle provides limited assistance, you are ultimately responsible for your motorcycle and your navigation. This trip is only suitable for highly competent riders who are confident in fixing minor issues like flat tyres and navigating using GPX files.
